What is explanation

• We have a conclusion then we try to work back wards to make a real argument

• Competeing and non-competing explanations

  • What are competing explanations

    • multiple possible explanations but only one could be true

  • Example

    • Observation:

      • a seal got an eel stuck up its nose

    • Competing explanations

      • 1. a seal surprised an eel, and it swam into seal nose
      • 2. a seal ate an eel then regurgitated it the wrong way

    • all of these explanations where only one could be true
